Class Rules:
Dear Students,
Welcome to Mr. Patel's Math Class! I am confident that you will find this class to be not only challenging and thought provoking but interesting and ultimately rewarding. We will explore many new mathematical models and concepts which I hope will change the way that you view the world around you. We may even have some fun along the way.
Your success in assimilating the information in this class is my top priority. In order to help maximize your success in this class, I offer you the following information which, in conjunction with the information in your student handbook, summarizes what is expected of you in my class.
1. Attend Class and Be On Time
Your attendance and punctuality reflect your attitude. I take attendance daily and will expect notes or sign-in or out slips as a follow-up to any absence. Please provide them without being asked. If you are late for more than 10 minutes, you will not be allowed to enter the class without an admit slip from the attendance office.
If you attend classes regularly, you will have much easier time grasping the concepts, meeting the expectations for the course and therefore earning the credit successfully. Likewise, if you miss lessons often (late or absent), you will have difficult time not only with the lesson/homework for that day but also for future lessons as Math lessons build on concepts covered from previous sections.
2. Be Prepared for Class
This means having the tools with you that are needed for class and the previous day's homework completed. You can expect homework every day, the amount will depend on the topic.
Equipment Needed: textbook, scientific calculator, pencil, pen, eraser, ruler, graph papers , notebook- you will need 3-ring storage for handouts and tests
Please do not bring or wear jackets, hats, cell phones, music players, food or drinks to class. These items are not needed to learn Math. (water bottle(s) allowed)
3. Participation in Class
When you stay actively involved in each class, you'll get more out of the class and probably understand the lesson better. Ask questions, try to answer questions, or volunteer to put a solution on the board, even if you “didn't get it right”. Avoid talking to classmates during the teaching of the lesson. Keep an organized and complete notebook, including all tests and quizzes to use later for review.
When time is given in class to begin your homework, USE IT! The more you complete in class, the less homework you will have. Plus, if any questions come up while you're working, they can be answered before you go.
4. Extra Help
Extra help is available upon request. If you are having trouble with a topic, talk to me and schedule a remedial class-Don't wait!
5. Respect
It's important and it should be mutual. Respect yourself, respect others, and respect our goal of successfully completing this course!
Remember: Ultimately, you are responsible for your success. Sincerely, H. Patel
